Our Innovate 21 signature program offers our middle school students an advanced placement experience with an emphasis on 21st-century skills. Our focus on communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking provides students with an education that prepares them for their future.

Our Portrait of a Graduate defines what it means to be a graduate of Fountain Hills Unified School District. Taking feedback from students, parents, and our community we developed the core areas of focus for our students. These core values are embedded at each grade-level and build as a student enters their freshmen year.

Cross-Curricular, Future Ready
Through a cross-curricular approach, emphasizing accelerated learning, the program prepares students for Honors and AP courses in high school. Students who complete the i21 program are ready to move into the AP Capstone program at Fountain Hills High School. AP Capstone prepares students for university life while building their academic resume with a Highest Distinction diploma from FHHS and a diploma from the College Board.

Fountain Hills Middle School offers a variety of electives. Several are full-year courses, while others are offered on a trimester basis. The following electives are available:

Band: Students prepare for high school band and are taught by 11x State Champion, Mr. Jan Gardner,
Art: Students explore Drawing, Painting, and Ceramics.
Physical Education: Students learn to play a variety of sports and focus on being health conscious.
Spanish: Students can take three years of Spanish and complete one high school credit while in middle school.
Robotics: Students learn Robotics from the novice level to advanced.
Flag Football: Students learn the game of football from our Michigan Coaches Hall of Fame varsity head coach, Pete Schermerhorn.
Dance: Students can participate in middle school dance or the advanced level, Dance Company. Taught by alumnus, Gianna Wilson.
Girls Athletics: Taught by Girls Basketball State Champion Coach, Amanda Baca. Students learn and practice varsity sports offered in high school.
Boys Athletics: Students learn and practice varsity sports offered in high school.
Basketball: Students learn the fundamentals of the game along with teamwork and strategy.

Honors Social Studies explores American & Arizona History, World History, Geography, and Civics. Through project-based, cross-curricular learning activities, students gain a deep understanding of how history and science connect in shaping human history. Connecting history and science through the English classroom, prepares students for Advanced Placement and college-level courses in high school.
Honors English, connected with history and science, explores how literature shapes our understanding of our world. With a focus on writing, inquiry, and reading, our i21 students enter high school ready to take Honors English, AP English, and college courses through our partnership with Arizona State University, including the following: English Composition I & II, Public Speaking, Communication, and Poetry.
Students in the i21 program may advance in math as quick as they want. We offer Algebra I in 7th grade and Geometry in 8th grade. Students can take high school level courses sooner, if they are ready. In fact, students who graduate from Fountain Hills High School can accelearte in math much faster than other high schools. Our students can graduate with 7+ math credits, where most schools only offer 4 credits of math. Our high school offers the following advanced math courses: Precalculus, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Statistics, AP Statistics, College Algebra, Business Calculus, and Calculus for Engineers.
Students in the i21 program solve real-world problems through a lab science approach. The connection of science with history and English creates a well-rounded approach that prepares students for advanced course in high school. Our students who graduate from Fountain Hills High School can accelearte in science much faster than other high schools. Our students can graduate with 7+ science credits, where most schools only offer 4 credits of science. Our high school offers the following advanced science courses: AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, AP Anatomy & Physiology, AP Environmental Science, Engineering, Paleoanthropology, Astronomy, and many more.
